Cornish Pirates v Bedford

Cornish Pirates 19 Bedford Blues 18

This week RFTG Jill has been away on her holidays in Cornwall and was delighted to see that the Pirates were playng at home. A great opportunity to visit and catch up with the Cornish boys.

My goodness it was a close match! I tell you what girls, if you thought the only good rugby went on in the Premiership, you need to get along to some of the other league matches. The passion and the view is just as good - and when you visit Cornish Pirates at Camborne you have the added attraction of Pasties! Yum!

Not only that but we also had a chance to watch RFTG Fav James Prtichard run out for Bedford. We had watched him throughout the World Cup playing for Canada so it was great to see him in the flesh.

The atmosphere at Pirates was great right from the start. I sat with my Mum in the stands whilst hubby froze his whats-its off on the pitch as the RFTG official photographer. It was a gloriously sunny day but a sharp Cornish wind made you realise it was nearly November.

Although the score showed only a point in it, Pirates were definitely on top for most of the match and they had some great breaks which somehow did not turn into tries.

After the match the boys stayed around on the pitch for a while and signed programmes and chatted to the fans. Then whilst the boys went into the clubhouse for post match grub, the fans packed into a huge marque and sang their hearts out for an hour or so. Great atmosphere!

The beauty of National 1 girls is that the boys are right there and you can easily have a chat with them, get their autograph and have your picture taken with them. They are very accessible in the nicest possible way.

Here are some pictures for you to enjoy and to sum up the day.

Thank you to Phil Westren who made us feel very welcome, even though he was wearing a Springbok Rugby Shirt! We had a great day and will be back for more.

Next time we will bring the 'girls' so look out!
