AUSTRALIAN SPORTSMEN STRIP FOR CHARITY IN
RAUNCHY NEW RUGBY CALENDAR
Featuring twenty-six of Australia’s hottest rugby league and Aussie Rules football players, the new Naked for a Cause 2008/9 calendar caused a stir “Down Under” then released a month ago. Now, it’s arriving in the UK and is set to raise temperatures across the nation.
Adding a new dimension to the term “spornography”, the calendar is the one of the most stunning releases ever made by a group of national sporting heroes.
Although originally only scheduled to go on sale in Australia, due to massive demand, it’s now ready for global release. The steamy images of naked and semi-naked Aussie sports studs are sure to win points among fans of the male form world-wide.
The calendar reveals more about Australian manhood than just flesh. In contrastto the French nude rugby calendars, the Australian fellas wanted to avoid being portrayed as “pretty boys”. The pictures show the players in a way which is raw, gritty and masculine – the essence of an Aussie bloke.
Leading Australian photographer, Pedro Virgil, was the creative mastermind behind the calendar images which fuse sport and style to create an edgy, directional look reminiscent of designer jeans wear advertising campaigns. “I took my inspiration from movies such as Fight Club and 300. I wanted to portray the guys in a way which is tough, raw and tastefully erotic. I hope the calendar gives pleasure to people the world over, especially since it’s for a good cause”, said
Pedro.
Despite its cheeky nature, the steamy calendar has a serious side: proceeds from sales go to The McGrath Foundation breast cancer charity which funds breast care nurses and campaigns to raise awareness of breast cancer particularly among young women. All the players involved in the project donated their time free of charge because they personally wanted to support this worthy cause.
None of these regular sportsmen had professionally modeled before, let alone posed nude in front of a camera, but their naturally sculpted physiques made them great subjects for a publication of this nature.
Pedro Virgil added: “The project was rewarding as the players worked really hard at the photo-shoots – it was clear they wanted to get the best results for the calendar to support the cause. For them it was a fun way of giving something back to the community, and we hope that the finished product does their efforts justice”.
The calendar is available to purchase online at Naked for a Cause priced $39.95 Australian dollars (approximately £18) plus shipping. With over 30 pages of muscular Aussie hunks, the bumper A3 calendar spans 19 months from October 2007 to April 2009.
