London Wasps 26 Leicester Tigers 16

London Wasps ended their season with a fairy tale win over Leicester Tigers at Twickenham this weekend in front of an 80,000 stong crowd. It was a fitting ending to Lawrence Dallaglio's 18 year career with the club and although he said it wasn't about him, just the team and the match, I can lay bets that at least 20,000 of the crowd were there just to witness his last match. That is the beauty of rugby isn't it. Twickenham was full of supporters from all different teams - I don't think you would find that in football.

It was Wasps all the way through the 80 minutes with a brief come back from Leicester in the second half when things could have turned topsy turvey - nobody would ever be foolish enough to write off Tigers until the last whistle of the game is blown. But Martin Corry and his gang did not shine on the day and the hungry wasps fought for every ball and it was just as though the whole team were determined to make it work for Lawrence's last game - or am I just being romantic. (Unlike Martin Johnson's last match - Sale took the GP crown from Leicester on that occasion).

It was also the gorgeous Fraser Waters last match for Wasps. He will be greatly missed but has now signed for warmer parts to run out for Treviso. Bye bye Fraser. Again, a great way to play his last match.

My hear went out to Andy Goode though I have to say. Having been the hero on so many occasions he missed penalty after penalty and the score-line could have been so different. Who'd be a number 10 with kicking duty!!! It must have been a day of mixed emotions for Danny Cipriani with his 'fractured-dislocated ankle'. Especially with the England tour just setting off for New Zealand. But her was their waving his crutches around and joining in the fun and celebrations. He had been a big part of the fairy tale ending for wasps bearing in mind that only 5 months ago, Wasps were in 10th place in the league - an amazing achievement.

So what now! Summer rugby carries on with the international tours and you can also get your fix with the Super 14 down under and the Tri Nations. French rugby carries on until the end of June as well so you can keep an eye on that if you have Sky TV. Before we know it, it will be London Double Header again and the whole lot will start all over again. How wonderful.

Apart from the Internationals, the boys will now have a well earned rest for their battered and bruised bodies and hopefully get the chance to get a tan from somewhere exotic. Meanwhile - there is CRICKET!!!........ (Doesn't do it does it).
