When another opportunity came to meet our Benji again, I jumped at the chance. I wasn't sure about the Boxing bit - but in the end thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening.
Event location - Dorchester Hotel, Mayfair (a posh part of London Town) made me nervous and excited. Upon entering the Ballroom entrance, met with Jill and Lucy in the very grand marbled looking room where we waited to go in for dinner. Once dinner was announced we found our table and met our fellow guests for the evening.
Martin Bayfield (former Policeman, England and Lions player) was our excellent compare for the evening - he told some really good stories and interviewed Ben and all the boxers.
The first boxer to come up on stage was Sir Henry Cooper - very big legend in the sport for many many years. Second up was Barry Mcguigan - he was brill with his witty story telling. The best by far was our Frank Bruno - funniest guy of the evening and I felt very humbled by his presence.
After various bids were made on sum amazing sporting memorabilia, our final boxer was interviewed. Ricky Hatton came across very down to earth and sincere. He was also made some funny remarks. Eventually I had a chance to meet Frank and Henry who were lovely. Also spoke to Martin Bayfield for a bit - hopefully meet him again at Twickers - I've often spotted him there - you can't miss him really at six foot nine.
Finally during the evening I did manage to have a bit of a chat with Ben - he remembered me which was great. Fatherhood is hard work but he is very proud and is adjusting to life in France.
