IS THIS THE COME BACK ENGLAND HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR?
HAS BRIAN ASHTON GOT IT RIGHT?
ARE ENGLAND READY FOR THE WORLD CHALLENGE IN THE AUTUMN?
Who knows - who cares! But wasn't it great to see our Jonny back on the pitch!...
I don't know about you but every time that boy went into a tackle I clenched the old buttocks and held my breath until I saw him get up again. Then he went and spoiled those boyish good looks by getting a smash in the mouth. Oh Jonny!
But anyway, from a girlie (very girlie) point of view, it was great to see him and Harry Ellis play so well together. The rest of the team? In my humble opinion they would have looked a bit limp without those two - just take a look at the stats...
England: (17) 42 Tries: Robinson 2, Wilkinson, Lund Cons: Wilkinson 2 Pens: Wilkinson 5 Drop-goal: Wilkinson ...
Scotland: (10) 20 Tries: Taylor, Dewey Cons: Paterson 2 Pens: Paterson 2 but all said and done, a convincing win against what seemed to be a slightly disorganised Scotland.
You may have noticed there has been a big build up in the press this week about the 'fab three' - Jonny, Jason and Andy. Talk about pressure. But Jason played well and got two of the tries. I love the way he gets the ball, puffs those little round cheeks out and weaves off at such an alarming rate. (Check out the cheeks here) My cat Mowser was not impressed at the way I yelled out everytime Jason got the ball.
The Rugby League guy? Andy Farrell? Not convinced really. Maybe we shouldn't be too hard on him as this was the first time he played a whole 80 minutes of rugby union. No, I jest. There has been so much hype about the poor chap he would have to have played like JW to impress... but isn't that what he is supposed to do?
Joe Worsley is one of my heroes. He goes a bit unnoticed but he's always there, fighting every scrap. A great big RFTG 'well done' Joe! Your efforts may have gone a bit by the by with all the Wilco rantings. (Time we did a photo shoot with you I think....)
Last but not least - Harry - (left) Well, obviously no bromide in your tea sweetheart was there! Harry has come in for a lot of bad mouthing over the last few years. Yes, he can be a bit cheeky, but I'm sorry, it goes with the territory of CLSH (cheeky little scrum half). Look who he follows on from - cheeky, gorgeous Matt 'look at me dance' Dawson and Kyran 'I do it on ice' Bracken and Austin 'I do hair loss adverts AND do pitch side commentary for the BBC wearing my Mum's scarf' Healey. Harry is obviously a star in the making and we look forward to his TV career - please Harry - do not go in the jungle or the BB house - you are far to young and good looking.
Getting back to rugby - Harry, you were a star and as much as I love JW, you should have got Man of the Match - simply because you are NOT Jonny and therefore you are just a mere mortal of a man rather than a demi-god - and you were still magnificent. Big RFTG kisses and hugs to you.
All in all, from a 'birds eye view', it looked to be a much better performance. Big chunky Mike Tyndall certainly made his mark and we just look forward to his hair growing back. Phil Vickery was his normal solid self even though he kept getting in trouble with the ref. George Chuter got most of his lineouts right apart from in the first half when he bombed out completely and ended up gifting the ball to hunky Simon Taylor who couldn't resist the temptation of scoring a try.Nice one Simon!
Scotland were definitley on the pitch, there's no doubt, but they didn't really seem to get it together. However, they still scored 20 points so it wasn't a real thrashing (quite). They still have yet to beat England at Twickers although lat year they won the Calcutta Cup from a half performing England side at Murrayfield.
So, we look foward to the rest of the 6 Nations 2007. If you want to check out all of the dates etc, have a look at Preeti's Ultimate Rugby Calendar.
