 | The Boys of Dover Sharks, never slow to get their kit off as well as on, have come up trumps again for those who like to see more than just 'Mud and Mouthguards'. | |
It may be mid summer, but the 2007 Dover Sharks Calendar is well on the way to being a sell out and should be in every girls stocking this Christmas. Hayley with centrefold Rikki | Local Dover girl, Hayley Fagg, 20 years, was inspired at 3 o'clock one morning (after one to many sherbets) as she dreamily gazed at her collection of rugby pictures including her heroes the Dover Development Squad. Then her gaze wandered across to the highly acclaimed French Rugby Calendar depicting a collection of very pretty boys and that was when the thought hit her like a sledge hammer - what have the French team got that our boys haven't?!! (....answers on a postcard...). Hayley was also keen to raise money for Cancer Research as she and her sister had just completed the 'race for life' and she wanted to do something else - so, why not combine her passion with something worthwhile - and have some fun along the way. |
So, the next day plans were put into action - the first stop was to enlist the help of her chum Leanne Wilkinson who's boyfriend plays for the Sharks. They spoke to the boys when out that weekend and all were 'up for it'. Fantastic! One problem though... how could they raise the money for the photographer? The pictures had to be professionally taken so using Hayley's digi camera was not really an option. Luckily, a knight in shining armour in the form of one of the Dover sponsors came to the rescue and paid for the photographer - so, all systems go. Well, they took a bit of gentle persuasion but I think you will agree that Dover Sharks have done us proud again and set the example for the other clubs for 2007 - Ruck On!
Hayley has suffered the loss of all of her grandparents to cancer and she herself is having an operation for a lump removal, although thankfully it is harmless, but she understands how frightening the illness can be for the sufferer and those close to them. Later on in the year we will be announcing the cost of the calendar and letting you know where you can buy it so watch this space.... It seems that rugby is famous for 'getting off the kit' for charity. The Orchid Cancer Foundation held their annual 'Men in Pants' earlier this year and had some national coverage on This Morning in the form of our very own Ben Cohen dressed in nothing but his pants, once again (we all remember The Sloggi Ad, don't we girls!). Orchid Cancer raise money to bring awareness about Testicular Cancer and is supported by many rugby players around the country, mostly in their pants. |
