RFTG reporter Lisa gets down and dirty with the ins and outs of the day to day life of Danny Care. He may only be 24 but we would sure like to scrum down (or maybe scrub down) with this dark and handsome hunk.
1) Firstly Danny it's common knowledge that you started out playing football, how did you get involved in the better sport? Had you ever played rugby before? DC - My older brother started playing rugby when he was 8 and I went along to watch and ended up joining in. I played rugby and football until I was 10 when I had to choose and I chose football. When they told me at 14 I was too small for football my school mates persuaded me to take my rugby seriously.
2) Well footballs loss was most certainly rugby’s gain! How did you feel when you got the first call naming you in the England squad and what song did you sing on the bus for your first cap? DC - I was delighted to get my call up and it was really special to make my debut against the All Blacks. I belted out "Lean on me" by Al Green it is a day I will never forget. 3) What has been your proudest/most memorable match to date with either Quins or England? DC - With Quins - the two games against Stade Francais but this season the away win at Northampton was special. With England it has to be last season’s 6 nations game against Wales at Twickenham when I scored a try. 4) Who's the best player you've played with and against? DC - Best player I’ve played with is definitely Nick Evans but Andrew Mehrtens comes a close second. Best player I’ve played against has to be Dan Carter of New Zealand. 5) Rugby “pundits” refer to you as terrier like, your style of play snappy and fast, you take anyone on whatever their size. Is that how you would describe your “style” or is it just how you naturally play? Young scrum halfs do seem to try and be as zappy as you now days. DC - It is my natural instinct to play as I do and I enjoy playing that way. I think I play better when I play on the edge it keeps me on my toes. 6) So Danny what are your ambitions; what do you aspire to? DC - With Quins I would like to win some trophies, especially the premiership and with England; well that is easy, win the world cup. 7) Are you good with your hands Danny? (Easy tiger I mean DIY skills that kind ofthing) DC - Not that good, I'd be a terrible house husband. Whenever my Mum and Dad come round my Dad has to go round the flat doing little jobs like replacing light bulbs. 8) I’m sure the girls at RFTG can help you learn a thing or two if you are interested Danny? What do you like to do to relax away from rugby as you don’t seem to have the DIY thing mastered yet? DC - Beat Ugo (Monye) at pool, cinema, read books on medicine & philosophy. (Laughs) No I’m joking about the books on medicine & philosophy was just trying to sound impressive. Did it work? 9) Watching you play out on the pitch is impressive enough for us Danny. So is that a typical day for you then? DC - Yep pretty much. Get up as late as possible, train, beat Ugo at pool, then read my books on medicine and philosophy, play my I-Pad, go to bed. 10) Describe yourself in three words? DC - Legend, Confident, Caring (Care Bear is apparently his nick name… bless.) 11) You have a large female following, are you a ladies man using your cheeky Northern charm? What’s your best chat up line? DC - Yes, I am a ladies man. My best chat up line is probably ‘What do you want for breakfast’. 12) Well if you are offering a fry up would be lovely Danny (all of the RFTG girls are currently swooning). Tell us something we don't already know about you? DC - Allergic to eggs and nuts - the first time I joined up with the England squad I arrived at the hotel just in time for lunch, it was some sort of chicken - it had nuts in it! I had an allergic reaction and missed the first training session. 13) Bless you! What cartoon character do you best relate to? DC - Tweety Pie 14) If I remember rightly a certain Cosmo shoot, had very nice kit off pictures of you, anymore photo shoots of the same variety on the horizon for us to enjoy? For research purposes of course. How about a *Care Bare* 2011 calendar? Am sure would be a best seller. DC - I'll only do it for a good cause. Have you seen the 2011 Rugby's Finest? 15) Yeah I did but they sold out and I never got one! Are there any words of wisdom/advise you've received or given that you'd like to share? DC - "Don't eat yellow snow!" Brilliant advice! Thank you very much Danny. Is there anything else you'd like to say before some quick fire questions to end? DC - I owe a lot to my older brother, Simon. He used to explain the laws of the game to me, usually after I had got in trouble with a referee but I couldn’t of got here without him so thanks big bro!
