Following our recent visit to Northampton Saints RFTG met up with Grant Seely who is being recognised for 15 years of service to the Saints with a 2006 Benefit Year.

Not being too sure how these Benefit Years work, we chatted with Grant to find out a bit more about it and about the player himself....

So Grant, tell us, how did your Benefit Year come about.
Someone wrote to the Board of Directors suggesting I should be awarded a Testimonial for 15 years of service to the Saints. I have then assembled a committee to organise events for the year

Do you know when they first started at Saints?
I think Harvey Thorneycroft was the first Saints player to have one back in 1995 ish

Do other sports have them do you know?
Football and cricket definitely do, I don't know about other sports

Who else has benefit years coming up from Saints?
As far as I know Ben Cohen and Steve Thompson who both started their playing careers here will have a testimonial in the next few years

Is a benefit year the same as a testimonial year?
Yes, just the wording

What sort of things are you getting up to in this special year?
We created a calendar with our high profile players (Carlos Spencer, Bruce Reihana etc) which is still available at the club (preview below girls)
A Testimonial brochure is also available
A 6 Nations dinner with most of the players attending on 15th March still has tickets available
A golf Day on 5th June
A supporters Caribbean evening on 24th June at Quinton, Northampton

Now girls - I know you are going to want one of these Calendars - So what if it is February - with pictures like these who cares... RFTG have secured some of the last few left so email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and we will arrange for you to have one - At £5 + p and p, you would be mad not to ...

Thanks Grant – good luck with your year ahead. Now, let’s find out a bit more about you and your daily life…..
