Craicing Day Out

A 'Craicing' welcome from London Irish on the first RFTG
'Girls on Tour' Experience

The girls tell their own stories......

I'm glad that I forced myself out of bed early on a Sunday morning to be entertained by Rugby for the Girls at the London-Irish/Cardiff Blues game on 4th December.  The excitement started as we walked into the impressive Madjeski Stadium filmed by the local TV station Meridian.  From there on we all felt pretty special as we were taken up to the Directors Lounge with our VIP passes.  We met our hosts from Rugby for the Girls, Jill and Madeleine, who were both very friendly and welcoming and looked after us very well during the day.  We were also looked after by the very gorgeous Philippos Kyriacou, Community Development Manager for London-Irish (he was definitely our man of the match!!).  Drinks in hand we got to meet two players from London-Irish, Bob Casey and Mike Catts MBE who were very approachable and happy to do autographs and have their picture taken with us, they even joined us for lunch.  Jonathan Davis also popped into the box to say hello as did Jonah Lomu who watched the match with us.  Obviously we felt very honoured that he wanted to watch the match with the girls!!  During half time we took a refreshment break and mingled with whichever players had happened to have popped in to say hello.  During the course of the afternoon this included Riki Flutey, Olivier Magne and Matt Banahan.  We had a raffle for some great prizes including a Guilbert ball signed by the London-Irish team.  After the game we retreated to the hotel bar to mingle with most of the team players who again were very approachable and happy to do autographs and photos and generally chat to us about the game.  We particularly enjoyed meeting the very gorgeous Juan Leguizamon!  All in all we had a great day and would come back again for the great atmosphere and abundance of good looking rugby players!!   The added bonus of the day was that London-Irish beat the Cardiff Blues 27-23.

RFTG…A wheely great day! (Sorry it had to be done)

What a day!!! I was one of the 35 very lucky ladies, who were wined, dinned and wowed in the luxury of the Madejski stadium director’s lounge for the London Irish versus Cardiff Blues game.
As all us ladies rushed excitedly towards the doors of the stadium, I have to confess I was a little apprehensive.  Not because I was worried about feeling part of the RFTG tour, from the instant I arrived I was part of a great group of girls all wanting to spend the day socialising, frolicking with the famous faces and watching hunky men throw themselves around a muddy pitch for 80 minutes.  I was however a little nervous because I did not know what it would be like attending my first match in a wheelchair!
As I wheeled myself into the stadium, I felt nothing but support.  I was even asked by Phillippos, our beautiful host that if I could not see, he would personally arrange for me to be seated pitch side…what a lovely man. Everywhere at the stadium was accessible for a chair and the Madejski staff were always close by to lend a hand. I cannot in anyway fault the staff, players and team RFTG.  I was made to feel comfortable, I was not in any way patronised and I was most certainly a girl on tour, and yes I even got to chat with my new best friends Mike (Catt) and Bob (Casey)…What a day!!!
This day lifted my spirits; I had an amazing experience, enjoyed a fantastic match and partied with the girls…Bring on the next RFTG tour!

Hi all at RFTG, just to say I had such a great time with you all at Reading last weekend, watching London Irish v Cardiff.  I was, until then, a rugby 'virgin' - no shouting from the sidelines for me for quite some years!
I had lunch with Mike Catt and Bob Casey - how lucky was I!
This is a great site, loads of info, especially for me as I am only just starting to take more than a passing interest in the occasional game - keep it up & I can't wait to spend a day with you girlies again soon!

just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thankyou for the experience yesterday. Both Cathy and I had a fantastic day and we both agree that Rugby For The Girls is a great idea which hopefully will allow more women to experience the great game of Rugby.

Hi, I went on the tour, it was amazing! I am now in love with a 6'7" 19 stone 3 pound Irish man - Bob Casey!
The whole day was great. It was brilliant to watch a fast paced, fluid game with very talented players. Meeting the London Irish players was also great, the Club should be very proud of them, they genuinely seemed interested in making the day as special as possible for all of the girls.
Just annoyed that I didn't win the signed ball!!
