RFTG Launch Day at Twickers

September 3rd 2005 – a beautiful, hot, sunny Saturday – the official launch day for Rugby for the Girls.

Two mini buses containing thirty extremely excited rugby fans beetled up the M25 towards Twickenham to announce to the Rugby world that RFTG had arrived.

On our arrival we toasted the new venture in Tesco’s car park with sparkling wine served in plastic flutes and the real work of the day began. Girls in RFTG T shirts and guys (all rugby players) in full dinner suits gave thousands of leaflets out to Wasps, Leeds, London Irish and Saracens fans as they poured into the ground to watch the first premiership matches of the season, the Double Header.

The atmosphere was amazing! The reaction received by the RFTG gang was fantastic. Everyone was interested in what we were doing. Everyone wanted to know more, especially the ladies! The girls wearing their RFTG T shirts invited comment and interest from all over the ground. Madeleine and Carolyn actually got chatted up by the Sarries’ mascot!

A brilliant day and a tremendous way to launch our new concept. But it wasn’t over yet. As we returned to the mini buses through the North car park we came across the Wasps boys enjoying picnics with their families. Lawrence, Josh, Alex and Fraser all chatted to us, signed T shirts and had their photos taken. They loved the fact that we loved them and wanted to talk to us.

That’s one of the reasons we love Rugby – no faux celebrity personalities, just down-to-earth world-class players. All the rugby fans amongst us had a great day especially when listening to those in the gang who had never been before rave.

Madeleine is in no doubt that she’ll take her family at the next conceivable opportunity and Michelle - who was terrified the crowds would be akin to those at football matches- can’t wait to get tickets to another match. Two new rugby ‘babes’ have been created – that’s what RFTG is all about.

SHARE THE PASSION!
