                               THE RFTG STORY

Rugby- power, passion and controlled aggression. The excitement of a gladiatorial event but somewhere you know your kids will be safe. Rugby - truly the most exciting and tactical sport on the planet.

All of my girlfriends agree with me that rugby is a great game to watch and they all love, and I quote - “big, hunky rugby players”.

So why is it that most of them only know the name of one or two players? I’ll tell you why – it’s because Rugby is the UK’s best-kept secret. You delve deep and there is very little ‘in your face’ exposure for the sport and its heroic players, especially off-pitch information and pictures without ‘mud and mouthguards’.

Enter Rugby For The Girls – the first online magazine aimed at the female market but available for all to enjoy. It will give both the ‘uniqueness’ of rugby and the players involved the exposure they deserve.

When you are an outsider, getting into rugby is difficult and our first attempts were greeted with some scepticism. We needed to create something visual to explain our concept so we came up with the idea of a website, however we could not get access to the players we wanted to feature on the site. At this point my team, Dover Sharks, who play in London 4, stepped in.

The boys and girls at Dover have been fantastic and I will always remember their enthusiasm and encouragement for developing what was simply an idea in my head.

We carried out photo shoots after training sessions and the boys became out first ‘rugby studs’. With the expertise of my designer, Peter, and the skills of Madeleine, who is in charge of PR and marketing we used what we had created with Dover to create our first site.

Since that time -and we are only talking about four months- we have rocketed along at an amazing rate to the present day.

We now see the launch of our new site, designed using the information fed back to us by you. RFTG wants to provide information, articles and pictures that you want to see and we encourage you to ‘have your say’ and tell us who and what you would like to see on your site.

The thrill and excitement of rugby is now available for us all to enjoy presented in a new and inspiring way.
